I love my job and for me the most important factor is that my clients love their wedding photos and the memories that I capture of their day. However it is always nice to assess my abilities against that of other photographers from time to time and being a member of the International Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) allows me to do just that by entering my photos into chosen categories against photographers from all over the world. I’ve been a member of this association for a number of years now, and applied to join after reading their strict standards for competition entry and their appreciation for non-staged moments, which is integral to my documentary style of wedding photography.
I have been lucky to win a couple of awards in the past, several of which have been with the WPJA, and was delighted to hear that I have been awarded 1st place in the “first dance” category in their latest competition.
The winning image was one of my favourites from Catherine and Steven’s wedding, which will be appearing on the blog very soon…
Definitely the best of this class, and a photograph that the newlyweds and their families will love and look at for years. Not only does it capture the bond between loved ones, but also it shows the faces of many of the guests at the wedding – a good job by the photographer.
I like the way this image is separated, very good exposure and composition making the picture look like a theater set.
