I started out my photography career shooting fun portraits of children. Part-time, it began with family and friends and grew from there. I eventually evolved into a full time wedding photographer, but I still undertake a limited number of portrait shoots each year.

I approach my childrens portrait photography in a similar style to my documentary weddings. I shoot at your home, or outdoors, and let the kids feel as relaxed as possible, I just capture those moments. It wasn’t actually a ‘free trip’ it was acquired with skill and luck, and when we were in Australia last year, Laura had both. In April, we set out on a round the world trip (photos of which were posted here as we travelled) – visiting Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and the USA. It was an amazing trip, especially for a photographer such as myself! Whilst in Australia, Laura and I got some great photos of kangaroos on the beach, Laura got a really special photo of two fighting, and after posting it on facebook, everyone loved it!

When we arrived back in the UK, Laura submitted the photo to a competition to win a free trip to Sydney – a few months later after learning she was on the shortlist, Laura received a phone call to say she had won! (although she thought it was a prank call arranged by me until she had written confirmation!)

Ive not yet edited all the photographs from our prize holiday. So below are some photos from our round the world trip from last year. I try to include people in most of the shots, as I think this provides a better story. Something I am keen to do when on my travels, as well as when documenting weddings.

I’d got to know Sally and Stephen well after meeting to discuss their day a couple of times, and having a pre wedding photo shoot a few weeks ago – so I was really looking forward to capturing their big day. It was also Stephens 40th Birthday, Sally had arranged for the celler area of the castle to be kitted out for some late night Birthday celebrations – how good is that!

I only seem to cover weddings at Peckforton Castle when its snowing, and being such a gorgeous venue, it looked stunning – the perfect winter wedding venue!

Laura was second shooting the day for me, and documented Sally preparing, whilst I was with Stephen and the guests – it was a really fun wedding, full of laughter. Below are some of my favourite images that tell the story of the day – all are natural moments captured without any direction or posing…

Although both are scary at times (swimming with sharks in Oz), I’ve had a great time and I’m looking forward to all the weddings I have booked for 2012 and 2013.

Although I still have Sally and Stephens wedding at Peckforton Castle to edit, I thought I would get together a small selection of my favourite reportage wedding shots posted on my blog in 2011.

My penultimate wedding of the year saw me photographing the wedding of Chris and Louise in Lancashire. The ceremony was held at the lovely Euxton Parish Church followed by a short car journey to Farington Lodge for the wedding reception.

I spent the morning with Louise and her bridesmaids, documenting the wedding preparation and nerves Louises’s mum put on a mini buffet too!

This was the third military wedding I’ve covered this year and my second featuring an RAF pilot – military weddings are always great fun to document and this was no exception

As usual, all the images below are unposed and captured naturally as the day unfolds – allowing the bride and groom to enjoy their day…

The winning photo was taken of Mike and Steph enjoying the evening fireworks whilst celebrating their wedding at Eastnor Castle in the summer, some of the lovely blog post is also below:

”The bride and groom must be absolutely thrilled with this photograph. It really is outstanding and I would like to point out that this is not an easy image to capture… the lighting situation would have been very tricky indeed and unless you know what you’re doing with a camera, this shot would most likely come out extremely fuzzy. This is a reason to hire a professional photographer because they can get shots that many others won’t. If you are fairly new to wedding photography and still finding your feet, this is definitely a standard you should be aiming for… a note to brides and grooms, if you can afford it, this is the standard of wedding photography you should be looking for to preserve your precious memories of your big day”

Whilst Dawn was at the hairdressers in the morning, I was getting shots of Carrie and her grandparents getting ready, I then documented the whole days proceedings until the dancing at the end of the night.

The wedding ceremony and reception took place at the Yellow Broom in Cheshire. It was my first Yellow Broom Wedding, and its a lovely intimate venue. I was even treated to a steak dinner during the wedding breakfast, perfect

I met Kelly and her friend Nicola a few weeks ago to discuss the detail of the day. Nicola herself is a very talented wedding photographer, but was concentrating on being a guest and relaxing for this wedding – check out Nicola’s website.

I stayed in nearby Richmond the night before the wedding so I arrived at Middleton Lodge bright and early to document Kelly and Mark getting ready and preparing for their big day! It was a gorgeous wedding with lots of personal touches and decoration. Kelly’s friend hand made her bouquet, a stunning piece of art made from buttons rather than flowers!

As usual, I covered the day in a reportage style, staying until after the 1st dance to capture everyone partying to the band. Some of my favourite documentary shots from the wedding day below, please feel free to leave a comment

nice to see a budding wedding photographer…

Last month I photographed the wedding of Alix and Mark at Stanley House Hotel in Lancashire. I had the pleasure of getting to know Alix and Mark well during our pre wedding shoot a few weeks earlier (Alix and Mark pre wedding shoot) – so I was really looking forward to documenting their wedding day.

After a couple of hours photographing Alix preparing for the big day at home with mum, bridesmaids and very cute daughter Ava, we dashed through the rain to St Andrews Church in Leyland. Luckily the weather soon cleared and after the ceremony everyone headed to Stanley House to enjoy the reception and the rest of the evening.

I documented the whole day through to the dancing at the end of the night, some of my favourite reportage shots are below.

Whilst Laura and I were travelling the world, I received an email from Steph and Mike asking if I was available to shoot their Eastnor Castle wedding in the Summer. I was available and suggested we meet up to discuss their day when I returned. When I found out Steph and Mike lived in las Vegas, it seemed I was destined to shoot their wedding as we were heading to Vegas at the end of our trip! So after meeting them both at a nice hotel on the strip, I was booked for their stunning English Wedding

Although based in the North West, I cover weddings all over the UK, and was really looking forward to the stunning venue of Eastnor Castle. Mike is in the RAF, and had arranged a flyby of two spitfires to kick-off the wedding proceedings – so I was excited about photographing that too!

Mike is from England, and Steph is from Canada, and lots of family and friends flew over for the day. Everyone had a great time, a selection of my favourite shots of the day are below…
